Provocative Change Works™ Process

Provocative Change Works™ Process by Nick Kemp

The Provocative Change Works approach, as used when working with private clients ,revolves around these three key factors during each client session.

  • Provoking client responses using verbal and non verbal communication
  • Inducing more relaxed and more fluid states, using hypnosis and non specific language
  • Using time frames to elicit client state changes

During each client session, I ensure that the client is constantly kept “off balance” by switching between each of these factors to produce useful, accelerated, lasting change. When working with clients I always consider that “any client problem” is maintained by “what the client is paying attention to” and “the manner in which they pay attention”

By changing either of these variable factors, we successfully change the client’s “stuck state”, so that they then have the opportunity to experience a new freedom of choice in the previously problematic situation.

How to provoke client responses to create a better sense of well being

This provocative approach was inspired by the work of Frank Farrelly, whom I first met in 2004. I was immediately struck by the elegance of his approach, and began spending a great deal of time with him attending workshops, hosting his UK events, and recording and producing his products. Previously these did not exist in the public domain. All of this crucially allowed me to spend considerable one on one time with him. This association led me to develop and expand many of the strategies that he uses in his work with clients, but in a different manner to “classical Provocative Therapy.

Provocative Change Works draws inspiration from Provocative Therapy, but is ultimately quite different, in that as well as using provocative strategies with clients, it also incorporates hypnosis both covertly and overtly whilst doing so. This creates a multi layered approach where a client is constantly kept “off balance” and struggles to maintain the previous “stuck state” that has caused and maintained the problem. It’s important to mention that the therapist ensures that he or she maintains good rapport with the client as if talking to an old friend, using humour and teasing to provoke a series of state changes in the client.

I have successfully used the Provocative Change Works ™ approach with a wide variety of client problems including, OCD, panic attacks, phobias, addictions, compulsions, food issues and anxiety issues among others. More specifics can be found at my website www.nickkemp.com
